Why ClevaMama Has Sustainability Wrapped Up.

We all want to leave a better future for our children, and while we can’t change the world overnight, every choice we make matters more now, than ever. This is why ClevaMama is working hard to make it easier for parents to make sustainable and ethical choices when you shop for your baby.

This year, we are proud to unveil our Sustainability Policy, committing to offering more eco-friendly choices for customers and reducing our carbon footprint as much as we can. From more sustainable packaging, to using more natural materials in our products. We have also sourced greener manufacturing methods using socially responsible work practices.

Packaging

So far, we have reduced the presence of single-use plastic in our packaging by 70%, changing to reusable fabric bags, recyclable wrapping paper and cardboard boxes. So, when you buy our products, you have less non-recyclable waste to deal with.  Where there are still plastic bags, we have made most of them re-usable for storage purposes.

Natural Fabrics

Cotton - Sustainable, renewable, and biodegradable, cotton is an excellent choice as an environmentally-friendly fibre. Most chemical fibres are petroleum-based, which means they come from non-renewable resources.

Our Jersey Cotton sheets and pillow cases are all 100% natural cotton and are Made in Green Certified, meaning the product’s sustainability journey is fully traceable. So you can rest assured that these items have been tested free from harmful substances and were manufactured in eco-friendly facilities using ethical work practices.

Organic Cotton - Organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides, from seeds which have not been genetically modified. Organic farming practices avoid using harmful chemicals while aiming for environmental sustainability and the use of fewer resources.

Our Knitted Pom Pom Baby Blankets and Shooting Star Comforters (coming soon!) are all made from organic cotton.

Bamboo - Our Apron Baby bath towels and wash cloths are made from bamboo fibres. This is a fast-growing crop that needs no chemicals or fertilisers. It also doesn’t need to be replanted so is a wonderfully versatile and eco-friendly choice.

Tencel – Our Tencel mattress protectors are made from TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibres. These are produced from wood pulp from sustainably managed sources and are a renewable resource. Certified by the Belgian certification company Vinçotte as biodegradable and compostable, these products can fully revert back to nature.

Manufacturing

ClevaFoam – All our ClevaFoam products have been manufactured using water rather than toxic substances. These items are all OEKO-TEX certified, meaning they have been tested for harmful substances and are harmless to human health.

GOTS – As with the Made in Green certification, many of our products are GOTS certified.  Our Waffle Weave Baby Blankets carry this certification, meaning they have been manufactured in a socially responsible and environmentally friendly manner.

Waste/water reduction

Reducing consumption of water is very much on people’s minds, and with good reason. It’s our most precious resource and we each need to play our part in conserving as much as we can. This is where the ClevaBath comes in. It sits neatly into your kitchen sink, meaning you only use a few litres at a time. The average bath takes up to 80 litres of water while the average kitchen sink holds about 20 litres. This means that by using the ClevaBath, you can save up to 8000 litres of water a year!

Our weaning products can also play a part in reducing food waste. Don’t want to bin those leftovers? Scoop them into our ClevaPortions or our handy food flask and they will keep for the next day. ClevaPortions are freezer-friendly too!

Re-usability

We encourage re-using and re-purposing of ClevaMama products wherever possible. One of the easiest ways to do this is to pass on pre-loved baby items once you are finished with them. Or even repurpose these products to use in a different manner. For instance, our Tencel mattress protector isn’t just great for potty training. They’re also handy when you have a child who may get travel sick or gets tummy bugs from time to time. Put a couple of these on the car seats/bed/sofa and you can save yourself a lot of cleaning, heartache and lingering smells. (We’d love to hear ways that you have repurposed ClevaMama products.
